St. Isidore School kicked off a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary Sunday with a special Mass at St. Isidore R.C. Church and an open house/reception at the Marcy Avenue school.
The school, which now educates children in kindergarten through eighth grade, and offers a full-day preschool program, first opened its doors in Sept. 1962.
“St. Isidore School has been committed to providing an exceptional academic curriculum in a nurturing, faith-filled environment since 1962,” principal Sr. Linda Joseph wrote in an anniversary message. “The combined efforts of the St. Isidore families [and] parishioners, as well as the local community of Riverhead have helped to make St. Isidore a leader in academics and technology,” she wrote. “With the generosity of alumni and friends, we can continue our mission.”
The school plans about a dozen anniversary events throughout the academic year, including a golf outing today at the Baiting Hollow Country Club, to promote the school and raise funds for its support.
