Long Islanders are still digging out from the weekend blizzard that dumped between one and two feet of snow in most places.

LIRR train service remains suspended until 7 a.m. on all branches due to the ongoing impact from the blizzard, the railroad announced this morning. It had been set to resume service on seven of its 12 branches at 5 a.m. today but frozen switches forced officials to push back the time by two hours.

Service on the Greenport-Ronkonkoma main line is scheduled to resume at 7. Service on the Montauk line will be offered as far east as Speonk, the LIRR said. Service is also supposed to resume on the Port Washington, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Huntington and Babylon lines this morning.

Suffolk County transit buses are scheduled to resume normal service today.

Schools in Riverhead and across the North Fork are on a two-hour delayed opening today due to concerns about travel on icy roadways.  See list of closings, cancellations and delays here.

All local roads have been opened and are passable, though some remain covered with packed snow and have icy spots, according to highway officials. Motorists are urged to drive slowly and use extra caution on the roadways today.

Fire department officials are also reminding residents to make sure that hydrants near their homes and businesses are clear of snow and ice so that they may be found and readily accessed in the event of a fire.
