Lifelong Riverhead resident Dorothy Brown died at home on February 10, 2016. She was 88 years old.
She was born in Virginia on Jan. 30, 1928, the daughter of John Edley and Mary Overton.
She worked at the Hollis Warner Duck Farm.
The wife of Frank Brown for 67 years, she was a homemaker and mother, a great cook and baker, a talented seamstress and avid gardner. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Riverhead, a member of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women.
She is survived by her daughters, Shirley, Deborah and Joan and by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead on Sunday, Feb. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service with be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 15 at First Baptist Church of Riverhead. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
