The Mobil gas station on Route 58 was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, making it the latest in a string of gas station robberies in Riverhead Town.
Riverhead Police received a 911 call from an employee at the Mobil gas station at the intersection of Pulaski Street and Route 58 at 2:18 a.m. Tuesday.
The employee reported that a man had robbed the gas station at gunpoint and removed an unknown amount of cash from the cash register.
“He came in, pointed a gun and asked for money,” said the employee, visibly shaken, at the gas station this morning.
Riverhead Police searched the area with its K9 unit but did not find the man. The incident is being investigated by Riverhead Police detective division.
Anyone with information about this incident is requested to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential.
The incident is the latest in a rash of armed gas station robberies in Riverhead Town in recent months. The OK Petro Mini Mart gas station on East Main Street was robbed February 11 by three men with a knife and a gun. The Mobil gas station in Calverton was also robbed at gunpoint January 26, and the Wading River Valero was robbed two days before during a blizzard.
Aside from last month’s arrest of the man who allegedly robbed the Valero, Riverhead Police have not reported any arrests in connection with these robberies.
