Nighttime repaving operations on Route 25A in Wading River will begin tonight, the State Department of Transportation has announced.

The 1.3 mile section of Route 25A between Wading River Manor Road and William Floyd Parkway will be repaved, weather permitting, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. beginning tonight. While construction will take predominantly at night, occasional off-peak, midday lane shifts/closures will be needed between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the DOT said.

Travel lanes will be shifted or closed Monday through Friday when needed. A single eastbound and westbound travel lane will remain open. Where the roadway is too narrow to accommodate two lanes, an alternating one way traffic pattern will be utilized, the DOT said. Intermittent brief closures of all lanes may also be utilized to accommodate positioning of construction equipment.

These closures are needed to resurface this damaged section of NY Route 25A which is part of the $13.9 million NYS Department of Transportation project to repair road surface damage caused by high traffic volumes and previous harsh winters, according to a DOT press release announcing commencement of this project.

“During this mill and fill operation, the top layer of the deteriorated pavement is being removed then replaced with new asphalt and fresh pavement markings,” the agency said. “When completed, this resurfacing project will improve motorists’ safety and help maintain the integrity of NY Route “.

Motorists are being warned in advance of the construction work via road signs and should use alternate routes or they will experience travel delays. Drivers who must use this construction route are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew, the DOT said. As with most road work, this operation is weather-dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these construction operations.

Motorists may call 511 or visit www.511NY.org for real-time travel information.
