Need mulch? You can get it for free at Riverhead Town’s yard waste facility in Calverton.

The yard waste facility has about 5,000 cubic yards ready to go, said town engineer Ken Testa.

“It’s single-grind mulch, which is a bit more rough than double-grind,” Testa said. Nevertheless it’s very useful for soil improvement and landscaping purposes.

The yard waste facility is located on Youngs Avenue, just west of the Riverhead Animal Shelter and it open Wednesday through Monday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Bring a shovel and come down and pick up your free mulch,” Supervisor Sean Walter said. “It’s good stuff.”

Anyone wishing to pick up a large bulk amount should contact the engineering department in advance at 631-727-3200 extension 201.
