William ‘Bill’ Jackowski of Mattituck died peacefully at home with his son Michael by his bedside on April 28, 2016.He was 77 years old.
He was born in Riverhead on December 26, 1938 to William Jackowski and Agnes (Lescenski) Jackowski.
Bill was an engineer with Hazeltine, where he had a long career and from which he eventually retired.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Irene, and by two sons, Billy and Jimmy. He is survived by his son Michael and his wife Janet, his daughter Sandi and her partner James, his granddaughter, Maya Jackowski and a sister, Loretta ‘Honey’ Jones, of Salisbury, North Carolina.
After his wife’s passing Bill took on one of his biggest dreams of all. He bought a Model A and joined a local club. He won many trophies for best in show and took more pride in that than anyone could imagine.
His life was about the happiness he shared not only with his family, but with the entire community. While growing up in Mattituck, Bill enjoyed many outdoor activities such as rabbit hunting with his dad and his sons. In his spare time, he enjoyed breeding and raising beagles, boating and fishing. Bill had a sense of humor that everyone enjoyed. He had some stories to tell and many friends eager to listen. He touched so very many lives in so many ways that memories of him will live on forever.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.
