A man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries after his van struck a tree on Route 25 this morning.

The man was traveling westbound on Route 25 at around 7:40 a.m. when his 2001 Ford van veered off the road and struck a tree just west of the 76 gas station in Calverton, emergency officials said. Riverhead Fire Department responded to the scene to extricate the driver. Hewas taken by ground transport to Stony Brook with injuries believed not to be life-threatening, officials said.

Route 25 was temporarily closed between Fresh Pond Avenue and Edwards Avenue. It reopened around 11 a.m.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is requested to contact the Riverhead Detective Division at 727-4500.
