East End Arts will hold  a special free program open to all children 3 to 5 years of age; the “Instrument Petting Zoo,” will take place on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the East End Arts School in Riverhead.

The program, sponsored by the Staller Center  and Stony Brook University allows children to explore different string and wind instruments. They will be able to bow a violin, slide a trombone, blow through a recorder and even wave arms to make sounds on a Theremin.

During this 40-minute interactive presentation, children get the chance to listen to and play real instruments from the orchestra. During the first half of this program, professional musicians from Stony Brook University Department of Music demonstrate various instruments and discuss how each sound is made and how they are different from each other. During the second half of this program, children will have the opportunity to touch and play the instruments themselves. Children are free to ask questions and everyone leaves with a musical gift.

Also at this event, families are invited to learn about a new music program to begin in the Fall of 2016 at the East End Arts School. MUSIKGARTEN will offer the two classes listed below:

Sing with Me for Toddlers is for children aged 18 months to 4 years
Family Music for Babies is for children from birth to 18 months.

Advance registration is preferred. Click here for more information and to register.
