Today is the last day of school and my oldest son Joseph is moving up to Pulaski Street. It’s also a bittersweet because one special teacher is retiring.

Ms. Judy Rosica, when I walked through the doors of Pulaski street I was scared, I was crying, not Mail_Envelope_letterknowing the English language, you were there with open arms. I will never forget that first day of school in 1994. I had just arrived from Puerto Rico leaving my culture, part of my family, and friends. When you came to pull me out of class for ESL and you spoke to me in Spanish, the joy and the comfort I felt because someone spoke my language was immense.

As time passed, like every teacher and student, we became close. You were my safe-heaven, my security blanket. I remember your comforting smile when any of us were upset. The coconut or oatmeal cookies you’d bring us every morning. You never yelled, you never frowned, you just smiled! So many great memories I have of you!

You and I have gone full-circle together. Now I’m all grown up and not only do I have to say farewell again, my kids have to say goodbye. I’m so glad and thankful that you were able to be there for my kids they way you were there for me. Out of all my teachers, there’s only a few who have a special place in my heart and one of them is you!

I thank you for all your dedication to all the children that were part of your class. Not many teachers have the ability of treating students as their own. My kids and I love you very much, Ms. Rosica and we were so lucky to have you! Happy retirement! Come back and visit.
