2014 0101 sobriety checkpoint

A Riverhead Police Department STOP-DWI enforcement overnight resulted in four arrests, three of them at sobriety checkpoints overnight and a fourth following a single-car crash near the L.I. Expressway exit 72 eastbound off-ramp, according to a Riverhead Town Police press release.

Juan Gutierrez, 25, of Stamford, Connecticut was arrested on driving while intoxicated charges after his vehicle ran off the roadway, hitting numerous highway markers and signs, police said.

Police said the following people were arrested at checkpoints on charges of driving while intoxicated:

Gambino Ruiz Coz, 47, of Riverhead;
Jorge M Garcia Aguilar, 31, of Riverhead, who was also charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol;
Leopoldo Ferrufino, 50, of Flanders.

All four men were were processed at police headquarters and held until for morning arraignment.

The Riverhead Police Department will be continuing its Stop-DWI enforcement throughout the rest of the summer and well into the end of the year holiday seasons, according to the press release.
