Three Riverhead cadets recently graduated from the NJROTC Leadership Academy.

Jacob Nitti, Robert Johnson and Michael Daniel have graduated after completing the intensive two-week training program at the Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island. They were each awarded the prestigious silver cord for completing the academy.

The cadets participate in physical fitness training, orienteering and academics as well numerous team-building exercises. Leadership Academy also includes sail training and the cadets spent several hours each day learning to sail in Newport Harbor.

Approximately 140 cadets from over 50 NJROTC schools were selected to attend the training. These cadets then return to their units to utilize their new experiences in leadership positions with their respective units.

Julia Pizzuto, this year’s Cadet Lt. Commander of the Riverhead High School NJROTC Unit, graduated from the Leadership Academy last year and attended this year as a Cadet Aide.
