An 87-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle on Cottage Road in Baiting Hollow yesterday evening, slamming into an unoccupied home, according to Riverhead Town Police.
The woman, whom police did not identify, suffered a head injury that was not believed to be life-threatening and was taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
The Woodcliff Park home sustained extensive damage in the collision, which took place at about 6:20 p.m., police said. The Riverhead fire marsal was called in to inspect the structural integrity of the house after the woman’s 1998 Ford van was extracted by Jet Towing.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
