Where better to find Nemo than at the beach? That’s the thinking of the Riverhead Recreation Department which will screen the popular movie under the stars at Wading River Beach on August 12. The free show is scheduled to begin at dusk, which should be around 8:30 p.m.

This performance is open to all residents of the Town of Riverhead. The movie will be shown on a 14’ x 26’ outdoor screen. Parking restrictions in the town’s beach parking lot will be lifted for movie-goers.

The featured movie, Finding Nemo, is a Disney-Pixar animated action-comedy about an adventurous young clownfish named Nemo, who is unexpectedly taken from his Great Barrier Reef home to a dentist’s office aquarium in Sydney, Australia. It’s up to his overprotective, worrisome father, Marlin, and his friendly, but forgetful friend, Dory, a regal blue tang fish, to bring Nemo home — meeting vegetarian sharks, surfer dude turtles, hypnotic jellyfish, hungry seagulls and more!

“I am happy that we are able to offer this free special event on the west end of town in Wading River again this year,” said Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter. “Residents of all ages are welcome to come spend an evening under the stars on our beach to watch this family-friendly movie and to spend some quality time with their children, family and neighbors.”

Children under 18 years old should be accompanied by an adult. Those attending should consider bringing chairs or blankets to sit on along with some insect repellent. The Recreation Department will also hold a concession stand to purchase popcorn and refreshments. Residents are urged to try to arrive early enough to find a preferred location to view the film.

In case of inclement weather please call 727-5744 ext. 30 for updated information.
