Fishing remains great all over, but with the super-hot weather, it’s been better early and later in the day.
Reports of trigger fish are starting to come in. Bass fishing slowed at the begging of the week but picked back up with the full moon. Buck tails seem to still be best for catching bass.
Captain Bob Fishing Fleet out of Mattituck reports excellent results, including a one-day haul of 500 scup, 50 sea bass and a mess of bluefish plus some quality fluke. They’ve been fishing deep water near wrecks.
Fishy Business out of Orient has had similar reports, landing sea bass, porgies and lots of blues. Bass picked back up with the full moon. One group this month had a great evening with 10 anglers catching a double limit of bass, releasing another 20 shorts . A load of big blues rounded out the catch with some real brutes landed.
The Brooklyn Girl reports very good porgy bite, most large to jumbo and a monster at 17.5 inches— and 3 pounds — and a boat limit of sea bass to 3.5 pounds, then a load of blues and a few bass. They kept one and released the shorties. Monday night’s sold-out Open/Split Charter Bass/Blues combo trip was again very heavy on the blues to 10-plus pounds but John landed a nice keeper bass on one of the last drifts. Great action.
Peconic star out of Greenport reports good porgy fishing this week, along with plenty of sea bass coming up also had a few fluke and trigger fish caught this week.
