Carroll Grimes of Southold died of complications from Parkinson’s disease on August 29, 2016 in San Simeon by the Sound. She was 85 years old.
She was born in Brooklyn on July 5, 1931 to Richard and Margaret (Carroll) Grimes.
She received a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College, a master’s degree in English literature from NYU and a doctorate from Ohio State. She was the chair of the humanities department at Pittsburgh University in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She taught English literature for 35 years.
She was a member of the Hemingway Society.
Predeceased by her brothers, Richard and William, she is survived by her brother, Dr. James A. Grimes and her sisters, Nancy McLernon of Flushing and Frances A. Leudesdorf of Southold .
A memorial Mass will be held at a future date to be determined.
