A pedestrian was seriously injured when she was struck by a car as she attempted to cross Route 58 Friday night, according to Riverhead Town Police. It was the third serious vehicle-pedestrian accident this month on the five-lane county highway.
Shanon Didavide, 29, of Calverton was trying to cross the Route 58 near Mill Road shortly after 11 p.m. Friday when she was hit by a 2007 Nissan driven by Amanda Riggs, 25, of Ridge, police said.
Didavide was taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, police said in a press release this morning.
Police said Didavide was attempting to cross from the south side of the road to the north side and was hit as she entered the westbound lane.
No charges have been filed, police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is ongoing and witnesses are asked to contact the police department at 631-727-4500.
