A young child was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after a two-vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Horton and Reeves Avenue that injured seven people just after 4 p.m. today.

A Ford Explorer was northbound on Horton Avenue when a Toyota RAV-4 entered the intersection resulting in a crash that caused the Ford to overturn, coming to a rest on its passenger side. In addition to the male driver, the Ford had an adult female front-seat passenger and three young children in the rear seat. The driver and adult passenger were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, one of the children suffered a head injury and was airlifted to Stony Brook, while the other two children were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

The Toyota’s female driver and her female passenger were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

None of the injuries was life-threatening, police said.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Flanders Northampton Ambulance responded to the scene. Mattituck Fire Department Rescue responded to RVAC headquarters to stand by in case of additional calls. 

Riverhead Fire Department secured a landing zone for the copter in a farm field on the corner of the northeast corner of Horton and Reeves.
