Joseph Knoechel of Riverhead, formerly of Sayville, died Nov. 27, 2016 at Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Facility. He was 80 years old.

He was born March 10, 1936 in the Bronx to Joseph and Marie Knoechel.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a forklift operator. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and he “liked a good cigar,” his family said.

Predeceased by his wife Ann in 2013, he is survived by his son Joseph of Riverhead, his daughter Laurie Mihalko of Mastic and two grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, Nov. 30  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church.
