A crowd gathered in front of the Big Duck in Flanders last night for Flanders’ annual holiday ceremony, an event that draws hundreds each year for carols, the lighting of the duck and a special visit from Father Christmas himself.

To kick the evening off, the audience was treated to Big Duck-themed Christmas songs sung by the Riverhead Middle School Show Choir, which performed classics such as “I’m Dreaming of a White Big Duck” and “Jingle Big Duck.”

Santa Claus caught a ride with the Flanders Fire Department, arriving in style on a fire engine. He picked volunteers to help him with his important task: lighting the Big Duck for the holidays.

With the help of several good girls and boys from the audience, a switch was flipped and the Big Duck was set alight. Santa then invited children to sit in his lap and tell him their Christmas wishes.
