Santa Claus comes to town: photos from the Riverhead Lions Santa parade

Santa and Mrs. Claus rolled into town this afternoon in the Riverhead Lions Club annual Santa parade.

Children and their families lined Main Street waiting for the Jolly Ol’ Elf to arrive.  The guest of honor (and his Missus) rode in on a Toyota convertible courtesy of Riverhead Toyota and driven by Councilman John Dunleavy.

The Riverhead VFW and American Legion posts, Scout troops, community groups, local businesses, the Riverhead Fire Department, Flanders Fire Department, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance participated in the parade along with a large contingent of classic cars from the Peconic Bay Region chapter of the Antique Automobile Club and an equally large contingent of antique tractors.

Supervisor Sean Walter presented Santa with the key to the Town of Riverhead — the magic key that allows him access to homes on Christmas Eve — and then Santa and Mrs. Claus held court on the town showmobile stage, visiting with children and posing for pictures.
