Riverhead’s finest help make Christmas merry for local families in need

Riverhead police officers and their family members delivered holiday dinners and gifts to families in need throughout the town on Thursday.

The police packed boxes with turkeys and all the trimmings at the town garage on Route 58.

“We’d like to give a shout-out to Walmart for donating gifts, to Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home for donating toys, to Peconic Bay Medical Center for donating turkeys and Zilnicki Farms for donating potatoes,” said Police Officer Richard Anderson.

The police helped 23 families — and 60 kids — this Christmas, Anderson said. The schools, churches and the hospital provide police with the names of families to assist, he said.

The holiday effort is undertaken each year by the Riverhead Police PBA.
