New pizzeria and Italian restaurant opening at former Uncle Joe’s location

  • A new pizzeria and restaurant will be opening in the former Uncle Joe’s location on West Main Street.

Cucina 25 is planning a February opening, co-owner Sean Kenna said today.

The traditional pizzeria will be open for lunch and a full-service Italian restaurant will serve dinner every evening, Kenna said.

And Cucina 25 will deliver.

“We plan to make our lunch and evening delivery a big part of our business,” Kenna said, noting that delivery options around town are very limited.

Kenna, 29, who lives in Shirley, has a background in restaurant management. He’s worked at the Riverhead Applebee’s for the past eight years, where he’s done everything from hosting and bartending to managing.

Robert Manolio, 34, a Stony Brook resident, is the pizza man, Kenna said. He had a pizzeria in Smithtown and currently is a manager at Public House in Patchogue, he said.

“We’re currently developing our full menu of specialty pizzas and the dinner menu,” Kenna said.

“We’re both very exited to be opening a pizzeria on Main Street in Riverhead.”

The downtown center had three pizzerias until recently. Uncle Joe’s Pizzeria shut its doors in September. Julia’s Pizza on East Main Street just off Peconic Avenue closed in June 2014; a Mexican restaurant is located there now. Papa John’s on East Main Street near Maple Avenue was open for just under a year and folded in April 2014.

They plan a mid-February opening, “if all goes well,” Kenna said. Currently the pair is doing some interior redecorating.
