Richard A.”Dick” Grigonis, a former resident of Southold died at his home in Greenport on January 12, 2017. He was 79 years old.

He was born in Southold on December 24, 1937 to Charles and Mary (nee Jernick) Grigonis and attended Southold Schools.

From 1955 to 1958, he served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant with the Good Conduct Medal.

From 1958 to 1967 he was employed by the Long Island Cauliflower Association. In 1967, he purchased Grig’s Service Station in Southold Village. He operated the business until 1980 when he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Southold. He retired in 2004.

He is survived by his wife Judith (nee Montgomery), his children Marianne Reilly (Bob) of Southold; Richard “Rick” Grigonis (Colleen) of Sag Harbor; Donna Jester (Robert) of Southold; two sisters, Margaret Fox of Alabama and Patricia J. McNeil (Richard) of Portville, New York; his stepchildren Tina Finne (Dan) of Greenport, Jeff Nockelin (Naomi) of Greenport, Lisa Cameran (Chris) of Georgia and Donna Medina (Angel) of Orient; three grandchildren, Richard “Ricky” and Elizabeth Grigonis and Tyler Jester along with 15 stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Rita (nee Fiore) and his siblings Charles, Mary Neese, Anne, Monica, William and George.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeFriest‐Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Southold. Interment, with U.S. Marine Corps honors, will follow at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery in Southold.
