A male pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle on West Main Street near Marcy Avenue at about 10:40 last night, Riverhead Town Police said.

The victim was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene and no charges were expected, police confirmed.

A N.Y. State Police accident reconstruction team was called to investigate. West Main Street was closed for about two hours while the investigation took place and the scene was cleared.

No further information was immediately available.
