A head-on collision on Route 25A in Wading River this evening sent three people to area hospitals.

Two cars crashed head on south of Sound Avenue at about 6:15 p.m., according to Wading River Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Brandon Heller. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident. The operators of all three vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Heller said.

Wading River Fire Department Heavy Rescue responded to extricate one of the victims; rescue workers removed the driver’s side door.

Two victims were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by Wading River Fire Department ambulances. The third victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Rocky Point Fire Department.

Route 25A was closed in both directions while the accident scene was cleared.
