Police said an officer attempted to stop a vehicle operated by Ashley Marcus, 29, at about 4:20 p.m. at the Riverhead Commons shopping center at 721 East Main St.

Marcus put the vehicle in reverse, striking the police unit, police said. Both vehicles sustained minor damages and no one was injured, according to the report.

Marcus was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, and operating a vehicle without a court-ordered interlock device, according to police.

The vehicle owner was issued a summons for facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
