A blizzard watch has been issued for Long Island and New York City ahead of Tuesday’s storm.
A significant snowstorm is expected to bring between 12 to 18 inches of snow to the area Tuesday, with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm is expected to hit late Monday night and continue through Tuesday evening.
A blizzard watch means there is potential for falling and/or blowing snow, with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities, according to the National Weather Service. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel “very dangerous,” the weather service warns.
