Former Blue Waves softball standout Amanda Graziano is tearing it up on the mound for the Oneonta Red Dragons.
Graziano, now in her senior year at Oneonta, has been named Pitcher of the Week by the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Graziano earned the honor after a perfect week on the mound for the Red Dragons.
Graziano appeared in five games last week with four starts. She threw a pair of complete-game shutouts in posting a 3-0 record for the week. She recorded 13 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings and had a 1.11 ERA.
After the first week of the season, Graziano is 3-1 overall with a 1.77 ERA. In 31 2/3 innings she has recorded 16 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .216 batting average.
The team just completed its Florida spring trip, posting a 10-2 record overall. The Red Dragons are scheduled to play their first games up north on Saturday at Muhlenberg.
“I’m happy I was able to help my team go 10-2 while we were down in Florida for preseason and I can see us continuing this season as a winning season,” Graziano said. “This is by far one of the most cohesive and skilled teams I’ve ever been a part of and I can’t wait to see the great things we accomplish this year.”
Graziano’s first two years of college play were at Mercy College. She transferred to Oneonta last year, where she is majoring in sociology. The 2013 Riverhead High School alum is the daughter of John and Diane Graziano of Riverhead.
