RiverheadLOCAL has a new look, improved functionality and some new features we hope you’ll enjoy.
We’ve redesigned our pages to make them load faster as well as easier to read and navigate.
Our new responsive design automatically adjusts to the device you’re using to view it: desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
Top stories remain where we believe they belong, for clarity and convenience: at the top of the home page. No hunting around. Scroll down for more news. Keep scrolling for blogs, school news and sports, police news and obituaries.
You can also hover over the menu bar at the top of the page for a preview of the most recent stories in each of the categories.
We now provide a full-service weather forecast for the North Fork on both our websites. You can view detailed weather information for the current day, including an hourly forecast, plus the seven-day forecast. All local and all in one place. Scroll down for weather news, including alerts issued by the National Weather Service.
On a story page, you’ll see buttons on the left side of your screen that allow you to share the story on Facebook, Twitter and by email. If you keep scrolling at the end of a story, the site will automatically display other recent stories.
Our redesigned, mobile-friendly events calendar allows you to browse upcoming events or search for them by date, type, location and more.
Last, but certainly not least, our redesign aims to better showcase the ads placed by the many local businesses who support LOCAL community journalism right here in your hometown. The ads are a little bigger and they’ve been rearranged to be displayed in less cluttered, more visually pleasing array.
While ours is a 21st Century, all-digital business model, we produce the news we publish the old-fashioned way. We go out and get it. We’re there to cover community events, breaking news and government meetings. Going deeper into issues as much as we possibly can. Asking questions. Doing research. Presenting not only all sides of an issue but also context and analysis. Going beyond the press releases is labor-intensive and expensive. But that’s what it’s all about. That’s our mission. And this is our pitch for you to support the local businesses whose advertising dollars make our work possible. Without them, this authentically local news website wouldn’t be here.
We welcome your feedback about our updated design and new features. Please poke around and let us know what you think. Email your comments and any issues you encounter to Katie Blasl, who designed and built the new sites over the past few months. If you’ve got ideas for new features, please let her know as well.
As always, we welcome your feedback on any matter. Please email editor and co-publisher Denise Civiletti.
If you own or manage a local business and you’re interested in advertising opportunities with us, contact co-publisher Peter Blasl.
The survival of local journalism depends on your support.
We are a small family-owned operation. You rely on us to stay informed, and we depend on you to make our work possible. Just a few dollars can help us continue to bring this important service to our community.
