Gus Cappetta of Riverhead died April 16, 2017 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 88 years old.

He was born in Brooklyn on March 28, 1929 to Samuel and Josephine Cappetta.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was awarded two Bronze Service Stars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 94 in Babylon and owned and operated Cappetta’s Barber Shop.

Predeceased by his wife, Rosemarie Eve (nee DeNicola), in 2006 and his son Nicholas, he is survived by his daughters Jeannine Cappetta, Rosemarie Doherty and Susan Merkle, his son Vincent, his brother Thomas, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his fiancee Connie Carlisle.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. Lawrence Duncklee officiating.
