Two people were airlifted following a pair of serious accidents on local roads last night and early this morning.
A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Middle Country Road and Edwards Avenue last night at about 8:10 p.m. injured four people, one of them seriously. The male driver of one of the vehicles was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Three other people were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Wading River Fire Department Rescue. Riverhead Fire Department Heavy Rescue responded to extricate victims and fire engines responded to secure a landing zone for the Suffolk County MedEvac unit, according to police.
A single-car crash on Sound Avenue east of Horton Avenue at about 3:15 a.m. today seriously injured the driver, who was airlifted to Stony Brook. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
No further information about either incident was immediately made available by police.
