East End Arts has some exciting news for student string players. The organization has announced a special opportunity for student string players to participate in the East End Arts Student Orchestra’s sixth annual collaborative project with the prestigious Perlman Music Program this summer.
East End Arts is assembling a group of Long Island string students ages 8 through 18 studying orchestral string instruments — violin, viola, cello and double bass — who will participate in an open rehearsal under the baton of internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso and conductor Itzhak Perlman alongside the Perlman Music Program String Orchestra.
The rehearsal is free and open to the public on Thursday, July 27, at 4 p.m. at Southold High School.
Prior to the open rehearsal with the maestro at the end of July, a series of four rehearsals will take place at the East End Arts School located at 141 E. Main Street in Riverhead. Rehearsals will take place on Mondays, July 10, 17, 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. There is a mandatory full rehearsal on Wednesday, July 26 from 4 to 6 p.m.
There are no auditions for this program, although pre-registration by Saturday, July 1 (or when the capacity of 55 students is reached, whichever is first) is required for participation. This tuition-free program has a nominal registration fee of $30 per student to cover administrative costs. The fee is due at registration and is non-refundable.
Violin, viola, cello, and double bass students ages 8 through 18 wishing to participate have three options to register before the July 1 deadline. They can register online, contact the East End Arts School at 631-369-2171 or email the school. The following information is required upon registration: student name, age, school, instrument, parent name, phone and email address.
The Perlman Music Program is a renowned intensive study program for young musicians of special talent. Through intensive summer programs, year-round mentoring, and on occasion, an international study or performance tour, the program offers musical training for string students, ages 12 to 30.
“The East End Arts School is proud to collaborate with the Perlman Music Program again this summer for this opportunity to bring local school-aged string students together with an outstanding orchestra of international student musicians,” the organization said in a press release.
