The East End Arts Gallery is pleased to announce the opening reception for their third annual national juried art competition and show, this year themed The Creative Process, which will open with a reception on Friday, August 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. At the reception, the public is invited to view the show and meet the artists at this free event; refreshments will be served. Guest jurors Gerald Peters, Owner of the Gerald Peters Gallery in New York, NY and Sante Fe, NM; and Peter J. Marcelle, Director of the Gerald Peters Gallery in New York, NY and Owner of The Peter Marcelle Project gallery in Southampton, NY, selected forty-three works from 494 two-dimensional artwork entries from across the U.S., with artists from as far away as the United Kingdom entering this juried competition and showcase. Of the forty-three selected for inclusion in the show, ‘Best in Show’ was awarded to Juju a creation in oil on linen by Don Perley of Old Greenwich, CT. The show will run from the opening through September 24, 2014. The East End Arts Gallery is located at 133 East Main Street in Riverhead, NY. This show is sponsored by Martha Clara Vineyards and Hamptons Magazine. For more information and to view images of the work selected for the show, visit http://www.eastendarts.org/gallery/national-show-2014.html

Guests are invited to enjoy a Martha Clara Vineyards’ wine tasting event in the EEA Carriage House (located behind the Gallery) the night of the reception, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A $5 donation for three wine tastings supports East End Arts.

Also taking place on Friday, August 8 in Downtown Riverhead is an evening of free public arts: murals, poetry, performances, live music, dance, art installations, and more – titled JumpstART. Arts take center stage in Downtown Riverhead as East End Arts’ JumpstART artists unveil their public art projects created during six months of professional development study. This free community event will be taking place at various locations throughout Downtown Riverhead from 5 to 9 p.m. Map and schedule of events will be available at East End Arts, 133 E. Main Street, Riverhead NY. For more information, visit http://www.eastendarts.org/calendar/event/2014/08/08/eea-presents-jumpstart-an-evening-of-free-public-arts.

More Information on EEA’s 2014 National Show Best in Show Artist, Don Perley
Artist Statement from ‘Best in Show’ winner Don Perley of Old Greenwich, CT: “These days I am mostly engaged with liberating gorgeous color from the outrageously cruel tyranny of confinement in the tube. I am self-taught, and began working in 1975 as a maker of small conceptual pieces, collage and painted collage constructions, moving gradually into experiments in pure painting.”
Perley will receive a seven-day stay in East End Arts’ Artist Residence, plus $1,000 cash, and inclusion in a group show at the new The Peter Marcelle Project, art gallery in Southampton, NY.

The Creative Process is the last of East End Arts’ juried shows for 2014. For the complete Gallery Schedule and more details, visit http://www.eastendarts.org/gallery/
