Have you ever seen the show Portlandia? We don't have cable, but I watched an episode on Hulu once and could not stop laughing. The show is based in Portland, Oregon and satirizes earthy crunchy-type hippy living. The one episode I saw featured the main couple going out to a restaurant. While discussing the menu with their server, they ask about the chicken dish. Where was the chicken from? Did it lead a happy life? What were its living conditions? Eventually they decide that before ordering, they want to go to the farm where the chicken was raised and meet its family. The gist of the conversation is that this is all perfectly normal and the server gets this type of request all the time.
