Update (5:24 p.m.): Police have identified the driver of the minivan as 78-year-old Priscilla Chumak of Hampton Bays.

Original story: Firefighters have rescued the driver of the minivan suspended on the guy wire of a utilty pole at Route 58 and Kroemer Avenue.

It appears the driver was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Kroemer Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. when it left the roadway and struck the cable.

“It just happened to stabilize right in the middle of the guy wire,” said Riverhead Fire Department Chief Joe Raynor.

Riverhead Fire Department Heavy Rescue responded with a tow truck to keep the car stable while firefighters guided the woman out of the car with a forklift.

The driver was uninjured during the incident.

(CORRECTION: An earlier published version of this story incorrectly stated that the driver was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was uninjured.)
