Riverhead High School seniors Stephanie Falisi and Ceaser Chabla-Sarmiento were honored as students of the month by the Rotary Club of Riverhead last week.
Stephanie, a member of Riverhead Rotary’s Interact Club at Riverhead High School, participates in many community service activities, including Rotary events and activities such as the club’s annual spaghetti lunch/dinner, pancake breakfast, and Salvation Army bell-ringing. She has participated in a book drive for Peconic Bay Medical Center, Toys for Tots, and various food drives for local churches. Stephanie has also worked on events to help raise money for the Brendan House group home for traumatic brain injury survivors. She has played varsity softball since 9th grade, and is a member of the varsity winter track and volleyball teams. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. She plans to major in biology in college and aspires to be a pediatric oncologist.
Ceaser is Riverhead High School’s Class of 2014 valedictorian. He has a weighted grade point average of 106.3102. He is president of the high school math club, president of the Leader’s Club, a member of Mentathletes, and a member of the National Honor Society. Ceaser has volunteered with the Charity for the Needy in Ecuador and tutors other students. Ceaser plans to major in engineering and would like to attend law school after he graduates from college.
Riverhead Rotary honors outstanding students attending both Riverhead and McGann-Mercy high schools. Students are selected by their high school guidance departments and attend a Rotary club luncheon with a teacher or school administrator as guests of the club. At the luncheon, they are introduced to Rotary members and they are presented with a certificate of achievement.
