Suffolk County Police have arrested Robert Edlund, 55, of Rocky Point for robbing two banks in three days, police said in a press release.
A man entered Suffolk County National Bank, located on Route 112 in Medford, at approximately 2 p.m. yesterday and approached a teller with a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the robber’s demands and the man fled the scene with cash.
Sixth Precinct police officers, Highway Patrol officers and officers from Canine and Aviation Sections searched for the suspect, who was located a short time later, hiding under a tractor-trailer parked in the parking lot of Island 16 Cinema in Holtsville.
An investigation by Pattern Crime Unit detectives determined the suspect, Robert Edlund, was also responsible for the robbery that occurred at Bridgehampton National Bank, located at 75 Route 25A in Rocky Point, on July 19.
Edlund was charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree. Edlund was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
