Riverhead Blue Waves volleyball booster club had a very successful flapjacks fundraiser at Applebee’s Sunday morning.
The first-time event raised $2,000 for the booster club fund, which is used to purchase balls, uniforms and tournament supplies not provided by the school district, said Diane Vail, whose daughter is a member of the Blue Waves volleyball team. It usually takes at least four car washes to make that much money, according to organizers.
“We had lots of community support and support from local businesses in town that donated gifts for raffle prizes,” Vail said. “Applebee’s was great and we thank them for everything.”
About 140 people attended, though many more tickets were sold, Vail said.
The team and booster club will host a car wash at J.King’s produce plant (the old Blackman building) on the corner of Sound and Osborn on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
