Shanice Allen’s 26 points and seven steals lifted the Blue Waves to a 55-35 victory over the Newfield Wolverines Thursday afternoon in Riverhead.

The Waves improved to 6-2 in League III, where they are in second place behind undefeated North Babylon (8-0). The Waves left the Wolverines (0-8) still looking for their first league win.

Riverhead’s next game comes Tuesday, when the Waves travel to West Islip (3-5) for a 5:45 p.m. tipoff.

Coach Dave Spinella took advantage of today’s big lead going into the locker room by playing the bench in the second half.

“We have to start finding ways to score when it’s not Shanice’s night, when they’re tyring to deny her,” Spinella said. “That’s what we did in the second half. And we scored more points in the second than in the first.”

It’s tough to come off a hard-fought game like the one the Waves played Tuesday against North Babylon and be back on the court two days later, Spinella noted.
