The Riverhead man accused of robbing a Polish Town shop last night is being held in lieu of $100,000 cash bail following his arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court this morning. Nicholas Savino, 33, entered International Connection on Osborn Avenue shortly before 8:45 p.m., brandishing a handgun and demanding money.

The 17-year-old boy accused of firing several rounds from a shotgun on Raynor Avenue last night was held in lieu of $250,000 cash bail following his arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court this morning. Riverhead Town Justice Richard Ehlers signed an order of protection requiring Nathan Streit to stay away from the woman injured in the shotgun blast, as well as her son and a third person involved in an altercation with Streit prior to the shooting.

A 33-year-old Riverhead man is being held on robbery charges after three employees in a store on Osborn Avenue in Polish Town tackled the man and held him until police arrived. Riverhead Police responded to a call about a robbery in progress at about 8:45 p.m. at International Connection, a call center located at 435 Osborn Avenue.

A 52-year old Riverhead woman, a bystander to a dispute between three men on Raynor Avenue last night, was shot when one of the men fired several rounds from a shotgun. Riverhead Police said Sharon Gallo was hit with a pellet from one of the shells. Police described her injuries as non-life-threatening. She was taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Hundreds of people turned out yesterday to honor the memory of Demitri Hampton, the 21-year-old Riverhead college student shot and killed while trying to protect family members during an armed home invasion in January. A picnic and three-on-three basketball tournament in Ludlam Avenue Park to benefit the Demitri Q. Hampton Scholarship Fund was a huge success, said Hampton's mother, Juanita Trent.
