John J. Grenham of Southold, formerly of West Hempstead, died at home in Southold on March 31, 2014. He was 85 years old.

He was born to Joseph and Helen Grenham on May 28, 1928 in Brooklyn. A 12-year resident of Southold, he also lived in Garden City and West Hempstead. He was a member of the NYPD and head security officer at Fidelity/Astoria Federal. He also served in the US Navy.

He was a member of several organizations, including the Long Island Fraud and Forgery Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose, SPATS, Knights of Columbus Marian Council and the American Legion in Southold.

He married his second wife, Betty, in Garden City in 2000 after his first wife, Eileen, passed away in 1993. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, dancing, and spending time with his loved ones.

Predeceased by his first wife, Eileen, he is survived by his wife Betty, of Southold, his children, Brenda Eisenbraun of Port Jefferson, Jay Grenham of Merrick, Debbie Boylan of Massapequa, his sister, Florence Schroko of North Carolina, and his 3 grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Coster-Heppner Funeral Home. Visitation will take place Thursday, April 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
