Victoria Percopo, of Riverhead, formerly of New Rochelle, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Peconic Bay Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 82 years old.

Born in Yonkers on June 15, 1931, she was the daughter of Stanley and Stella Anton. She grew up in Yonkers and lived there most of her life.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Maron in 1972 and by her second husband, Carmine Percopo in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Berezny, former Riverhead Board of Education president and son-in-law, Joseph Berezny, and by their children, Kimberly and Joshua.

She is also survived by her siblings Pauline Grabowski, Beverly LaRocca, Gary Schwuchow, Carolyn DiLemme, Denis Schwuchow, Gerald Schwuchow and Richard Schwuchow. She was predeceased by her sister Rose Cunliffe and brother Robert Anton.

Victoria loved visiting Riverhead, her daughter said. She would attend Riverhead school board meetings and Riverhead Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary functions, she said.

“She loved the Polish fair. She loved Polish music and was an excellent Polka dancer,” Kathleen Berezny said. “She would put me to shame.”

Berezny said her mother moved to Riverhead three years ago, when her health began to decline. “She enjoyed listening to Polka music on WRIV every Sunday,” she said.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughin Heppner Funeral Home, 336 Marcy Avenue, Riverhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore’s RC Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at L.I. National Cemetery at Pinelawn.
