Visiting Hours for 91 year old, VIRGINIA MEYRAN of Mattituck will be held on Sunday, October 23rd  from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes on the Main Road in Mattituck.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 24th at 9:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church in Cutchogue.

Interment will follow at the Calverton National Cemetery.

Marianne O'Connor of Calverton died Oct. 17, 2011 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 74 years old.

She was born Aug. 22, 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Florence Biscardi.

She is survived by her husband Richard and sons Robert, of New Jersey, Kevin, of Washington, and Michael, of California. She is also survived by her brothers, David, Anthony, Dominic, Thomas and Edward Rossi.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead. The Rev. George Summers will conduct a service at the funeral home at 3 p.m.

Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery, where there will be a private service for immediate family only.

Former Riverhead resident Roslyn Goldman died Oct. 5, 2011, in Stamford, Conn. She was 85 years old.

She was born Feb. 20, 1926, in New York City to Max and Anna Goldberger. She graduated from Hunter College in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology.

She married John Goldman in 1946 and worked for the city’s welfare department until 1951. She and her husband lived in Detroit from 1951 to 1958. They then moved to Riverhead, N.Y., where they lived until the mid-1980s.

While living in Riverhead, Mrs. Goldman taught nursery school and college courses. She also did volunteer work for the public library and the League of Women Voters.

She lived in Hoboken, N.J., for the following 10 years before splitting her time between Stamford and North Miami Beach, Fla., for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Goldman was a voracious reader, who loved telling and collecting information about her family, solving puzzles and speaking with people from all walks of life, especially children.

She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Susan Brandes, her brother Joseph Gould and her sister Florence Hunsberger.

She is survived by her sons Robert and David and her sister Harriet Anderson.
She is also survived by her nephews and nieces; Richard and Patricia Lubow, Mindy and Nat Kusher, Bill Anderson, Andrew and Judith Gould, and Yale Gould; her son-in-law Leland Brandes; grandsons Derek Brandes and Stefan Brandes; granddaughters Dana Dillon, Sharron Dillon, DeAnn Brandes, Shauna Brandes; grandnephews and grandnieces Maureen Lubow, Audra Kusher, Aaron Kusher, Michaela Anderson, David Gould and Eleanor Gould; great-grandsons Jacob Brandes, Evan Brandes and William Stonier; great-granddaughters Kaci Stonier and Kayla Brandes; great-great-grandaughters Kaylee Brandes, Aubrie-Sage Stonier and great-great-grandson Zachariah Cash.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Riverhead Free Library, 330 Court St., Riverhead, N.Y., 11901.

Dorothy Kohler of Riverhead died Oct. 17, 2011 at the age of 92.

She was born June 1, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Alvin and Lillian (Adams) Lent.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 21 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead, from 10 a.m. to noon, immediately followed by a funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Commack Cemetery in Commack.

2011_1013_mohns_alanFormer Riverhead resident Alan David Mohns passed away at his home in Florida on Saturday, October 8, 2011.

He was born in Riverhead, New York, and raised by Victor and Margaret Mohns. Big Al will best be remembered for the love he had for everyone he met. He enjoyed the beach, fishing, sports, but most importantly, his time spent with family. He was a Marine.

Alan was preceded in death by his wife Rose Marie Pape, and by his brother, John Stonebanks.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Joy Ann; his children Tammy Mohns, Marlana and her husband Andrew Deslandes, David Alan Mohns, Alyson Mohns, and Erika and her partner Elizabeth O’Connor-Simms, Alexis Jimenez; and grandchildren, Kody, Cameron, Justin, Madison, Avery, Zoey, and Selena.
