Obituaries

Anna Walters of Peconic died on November 1, 2011.  She was 75 years old.


Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 4th at 9:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church in Cutchogue. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.


In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice would be appreciated.

Barbara Gallo of Aquebogue passed away at home on Oct. 29, 2011, after a long illness and surrounded by her family. She was 66 years old.

She was born April 17, 1945 in Riverhead, the daughter of Antone and Jean (Cierach) Trubisz.

A 1962 graduate of Riverhead High School, she married Thomas F. Gallo in 1964.

With her husband and son, she owned and operated Fred J. Gallo Used Auto Parts in Riverhead.

Mrs. Gallo loved having her children and grandchildren around. She was an avid gardener.

Predeceased by her parents, she is survived by her husband, her daughters Paula Sperry, of Florida, Pamela Argenti, of Aquebogue, Laurie Seebeck, of Aquebogue, and a son, Thomas F. Jr., of Aquebogue. She is also survived by a sister, Karen Heppner, of Aquebogue, a brother, Tony Trubisz, of Virginia, and by seven grandchildren.

Visiting hours will take place Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLaughlin-Heppner Funeral Home, 336 Marcy Avenue, Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Riverhead. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Good Grief, in care of East End Hospice,  PO Box 1048 Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.

Angelina N. Aquino of Riverhead died suddenly on October 20, 2011. She was 47 years old.


She was born in Mexico on June 24, 1964 to Maximino and Leonor Aguilar Garcia Lopez.   


Surviving are her husband, Salvador Aquino; children, Adriana Aquino and S. Rene Aquino; sister, Rosa Lopez Aquilar and two grandchildren.


The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25th from11 A.M. until 1 P.M. and 7 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes in Mattituck.  Her remains will be returned home for interment in her native Mexico on Saturday.


Walter E. Breitenbach, a life-long resident of Aquebogue died at home on Friday, October 28, 2011.  He was 77 years old.

Born in Riverhead on January 16, 1934 to Emil and Helena (nee Stakey) Breitenbach, he was a graduate of Riverhead High School.  On October 8, 1955, he married the former Gladys Columbus and together they made their home in Aquebogue.

For many years, Walter was a farmer and was later associated with Half Hollow Nursery in Laurel.  Many will remember him as the security guard at the Jamesport Community Center.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in East Moriches and in his free time, he enjoyed gardening and tinkering around the home.

Predeceased by his wife, Gladys A. Breitenbach on July 6, 2011; he leaves his daughters: Sharon Tanzi of Mastic Beach, Kim Talmage of Riverhead, Suzanne Breitenbach of Riverhead and Michele Wells of Mattituck; a brother, Emil Breitenbach and two sisters, Elsie Harrison and Edna Slavonik all of Aquebogue and four grandchildren.

The family received friends on Sunday, October 30th at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.  Funeral services were held on Monday, October 31st at Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend John Fleischmann officiating.  Interment was in the Riverhead Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 1111 Osborne Avenue, Riverhead, New York 11901 would be appreciated.


Robert J. Melchione of Southold died at home on October 24, 2011 surrounded by his family.   He was 74.

Born in Queens Village on March 18, 1937 to Fred and Helen (nee Burger) Melchione, he attended Power Memorial High School and apprenticeship schools.  For many years, he was a Linotype Operator for Peter F. Mallon in NYC and was co-owner of Kings Park Taxi.


A former long-time resident of Kings Park, he has been a summer resident since 1944 and a permanent resident since 1996.  He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Communication Workers of America and Island’s End Golf and Country Club.


Surviving are his wife, Patricia (nee Sheahan) who he married on September 19, 1959 in Norwalk, CT; four children, Susan McCluskey of Flemington, NJ,  James (Ann) Melchione of Patterson, NY,  Jean (Aaron) Smiles of Rocky Point and Mark (Kim) Melchione of Branchburg, NJ; two brothers, Alfred Melchione of Kings Park and Richard Melchione of Southold and eleven grandchildren, Nicole Corbett, Anthony, Robert and Eric Melchione, Elizabeth McCluskey, Dan and Jami Smiles and Megan, Allison, Owen and Ryan Melchione and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, George Melchione.


The family will receive friends today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Southold by Father Peter Garry.  Memorials to East End Hospice would be appreciated.
