Riverhead Blue Waves varsity softball team improved their record to 7-6 yesterday with a big win over Smithtown West, 3-1 on the home field.
Waves pitcher Amanda Graziano had a shutout going into the top of the 7th, when the Bulls threatened, loading the bases with nobody out. One run scored on a bloop single to shallow left. With the bases still full, the Waves got the force at home plate on a ground ball to short. Graziano got the next batter on strikes. The final out of the game came with a ground ball to first.
“It was the best game we played all year,” Coach Robert Fox said.
Key hits by Ally Docsinski, Sara Tucci and Stephanie Falisi scored Riverhead’s three runs.
