Riverhead Central School District's athletics department is looking for memorabilia of past star athletes who went on to play professional sports or competed at the Olympics level after they left Riverhead High School.

The Lady Blue Waves alumnae proved last night they’ve still got what it takes. The Waves alumnae defeated Bellport 51-34 in a game to benefit the girls basketball booster club at Riverhead High School.

The sport requires rigorous, near-daily training, which is no small task even without a school swimming pool or local swim club. Families drive at least 40 minutes away to one of the nearest swim clubs – in Port Jefferson or Brentwood – so that their swimmers can complete at least an hour of daily training

An interception and 85-yard touchdown run sealed the Waves' fate Saturday afternoon.

Riverhead (3-3) needed to come away with the win today, and that’s exactly what they did.

For the first time ever, the Waves made it to the finals in the Universal National Cheerleading Association National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida.
