The Blue Waves girls volleyball team administered a clean sweep of East Islip Monday afternoon retaliating after a hard-fought loss, bouncing back into the victory column.

Riverhead, which improved to 3-1 on the season, won 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18.

“After the tough loss against Hauppauge, we used our practice to improve ourselves by focusing on individual and team skill work,” said head coach Amy Greene. “And it definitely showed today.”

With all the experience the Blue Waves have, it was just a matter of time before everything started to sync as one heartbeat. And it’s all starts with cohesion on defense, Green said.

“We were turning our defense into an offensive threat,” she said. “We’re coming into this league this year with a big defensive presence and what we really need to work on is putting the ball away.”

“And today, we put the ball away,” Greene said. “I really think it’s all coming together full circle.”

Senior Hali Martens led the team in both digs (13) and kills (7).

Megan Brewer had 6 aces and 3 kills. Sara Tucci led the team with 21 assists and Joscelin Morrow registered 11 digs.

The Waves return to action tomorrow night in a non-league matchup at home against Bayport-Blue Point. Game time: 4 p.m.

“We’re going just going to go out and play Riverhead volleyball and hopefully we can come out with another win,” Greene said.
