The NWS had issued a 'red flag warning' for wildfire spread on the morning of the Manorville wildfire, April 9, 2012

There is an enhanced risk of fire spread today and the likelihood of “red flag conditions tomorrow,” the National Weather Service said in a special statement issued this morning.

The weather service has posted a “fire weather watch” for tomorrow, April 24 across the entire tri-state area. A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.

The combination of strong northwest winds and a drying air mass will result in conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires today, especially this afternoon, according to the NWS statement.

Tomorrow, with relative humidity dropping as low as 18 percent and strong northwest winds, rapid fire spread is possible if ignition occurs, the weather service said.

If you see a fire or smoke plume, you should report it immediately, the statement said.
