Riverhead High School sophomore Marisa Hewkin, 16, was crowned Riverhead Idol last night at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in Riverhead, in the popular contest’s 7th annual edition.

The theme for the evening was the 1970s. The program was emceed by Councilman Jim Wooten, who recounted highlights of each year of the decade between performances.

Marisa performed “So Far Away” from Carole King’s blockbuster album “Tapestry.”

Second place went to Emma Bernhardt, a RHS 9th grader, who performed “I Feel the Earth Move.” And third place went to RHS junior Macey Reichel, who performed “I Will Survive.”

There were a total of 10 contestants in this year’s Riverhead Idol, which was judged by a panel of five community members, Barbara Blass, Bobby Brown, Laura Lasita, Edward Thor and Lindsay Reeve.
